My Fairy Folks: New Year Tradition

Our friends from Los Angeles, California are back with a fairy offering. This time Willow and little Mina have shared with us their New Year tradition.

Top, clockwise: Steak and gravy, Black eyed peas pot licker, oatmeal cookie, cornbread and butter, corn, honey glazed carrots, and steamed broccoli and cauliflower.

Willow writes, "in the South, we eat black-eyed peas on New Years day to bring good luck for the year. Being from southern roots, I made my black-eyed peas 'pot licker' style."

I'd never heard of pot licker before, so I looked it up and found that it is a term not often used outside of Southern America and means that something is made with pork fat and is so yummy that you want to lick the pot clean! I'm so jealous of the fairies that got to dig in to this feast!

Mina placed the plate of food in the area of their yard they have dedicated for fairies. They leave the food out overnight so that any hungry fairy can come as they wish for a lovely snack.

New Year, New Life - 2018

This new year is a bit more special than normal for us here at Grandma's Enchanted Fairy Garden. Dustin made his first appearance on December 24, born to my grandson John and wife Chelsea. They have all been busy with visitors in the past week (we have a very large family), but they made time to come visit my garden.

My husband held Dustin, both soaking in the warm California morning sun. This is Mr. Peanut's first time meeting Dustin and he doesn't look too happy about it. Grandpa's lap is normally Mr. Peanut's territory, so it's understandable. The warm sunshine is just what the doctor ordered for Dustin's mild jaundice.

Look at this happy family! Welcome to the world, Dustin.

2017 - A Glorious New Year

I hope all my lovely Fairy Folks had a lovely holiday season, spent with friends and family. I took this photo in the cold early hours of the new year, contemplating all the things I accomplished in the last year and the exciting possibilities in the future. I hope you hadn't given up on me. As is for most people, the holiday season is a very busy time of year and most of my grandchildren work retail (which, as I'm sure you know is a very demanding schedule), so we here at Grandma's Enchanted Fairy Garden would like to apologize for our absence.

During that time, and after three years of having a tablet, Grandma has finally received the message "insufficient storage space." I thought I was doing such a good job finally taking my granddaughter's advice and condensing my photo sets from 15-20 down to my favorite 6. Apparently it was too little, too late, so I now need to work on deleting and moving current pictures to make room for the new year.

Greeting The New Year With Open Arms

Myleene pulled me aside this afternoon to say she was ready for her New Year photoshoot. Last year she had a photoshoot with the theme 'swinging in the new year' and I vaguely recall mentioning that we should do it again this year. Well, she remembered very vibrantly and was animate about it.

This year she is perched atop a Christmas ornament just underneath a crystalized mistletoe. Her arms are spread out with welcoming arms for the coming New Year ... or a kiss - she won't complain. We here at Grandma's Fairy Garden hope you and yours have had a wonderful holiday and will have a safe and happy New Year.

Swinging In The New Year

Ever since the fairies showed up in my garden, the lemons on my lemon tree have grown bigger and bigger. They're almost the size of my head! In the background you can see the origins of my fairy garden.

Here is Myleene. She grabbed my attention this morning while I was making my way through the garden and asked me to take a video of her, 'swinging' in the new year. I suppose all the other fairies were still resting from the Winter Festival (photos to be posted soon).
