The Gnomes From Woodland Grove, Part 3

As the light dissipated, the Fern family saw that the once empty lot was no longer empty. Now the lot was filled with furniture, dishes, books, tools and more - basically everything one would find inside of a house - scattered all around and a family of tiny people dressed in green surrounding a large black pot of gold. The Fern family began to calm down a bit, deciding that this group seemed non-threatening. Zookned told the children to stay put and moved to greet the group. The strangers began to gather all their belongings, at the same time surveying their surroundings. The children watched the people dressed in green quickly organize the whirlwind of a mess that their arrival had made and Sue thought to herself 'they must have done this many times before to be able to clean up that quickly.'

The 'strangers' arrive in the empty lot by way of a rainbow and quickly make themselves at home.

It was at this time that Grandma came out to her garden. She had heard the commotion all the way inside her house where she was working on her blog and rushed outside to see where all the noise was coming from. One of the men in green saw Grandma before she saw him and he jumped into the black pot full of gold. "You can't have me gold!" he shouted. Grandma heard this and looked down at him. "I don't want your gold, I just came to see what was making such loud noises out here."

Zookned explained to Grandma what had happened with the rainbow and the clattering. As fairies from the garden gathered around, the group in green introduced themselves.

Patrick is the Tribal leader, invited to the community by King Mac on his travels through South Ireland, and father to Ryan. Liam is the Keeper of the Rainbow, the tribe's main mode of transportation and how they arrived to the empty lot (and perhaps partakes too much in adult beverages). These three are Leprechauns. The fairy Brianna is a healer who accompanied the leprechauns on their journey, also invited by the King, to teach herbal medicine to the community.

The excitement died down as the group of new arrivals announced their plans to get some rest early as they were very exhausted from their lengthy trip. Patrick made it known that he would be meeting with the Queen first thing tomorrow.

The Gnomes From Woodland Grove, Part 2

One evening, the young gnomes Bobby and Sue were enjoying a bit of teeter-tottering (as they do most mornings, afternoons and evenings) in the front yard of their home in Woodland Grove. Grandma and Grandpa were inside getting dinner ready. The light breeze wafted the scents over to Bobby and Sue, making their tummies grumble but both had a smile on their face. Their father had just returned from chopping wood and began to work on getting a fire started.

Out of the corner of his eye, Bobby saw a big, beautiful rainbow that had appeared in the empty lot across the path. He stopped teetering and said, "look over there, Sue. Isn't that the most beautiful rainbow you've ever seen?" Sue turned to look, still raised in the air on the teeter totter, and agreed. Bobby then furrowed his brow and said, "wait a minute, we didn't have any rain and there aren't any clouds in the sky. Why is there a rainbow?"

Before Sue could think of an answer, the rainbow had begun to pulse and the colors had begun to change. The silent sky was suddenly a bustle of noise caused by this curious rainbow. Bobby and Sue began to feel very scared. Rainbows are not supposed to pulse and change colors and they are definitely not supposed to make very loud noises! As the noise grew louder, the children called out for their father. "Daddy! Help!"

Can you hear the noise it's making?" questioned Bobby. "Why is it doing that, Dad?" asked Sue. Zookned scratched his chin in confusion. He did not have an answer for them because he had never seen anything like this. Rainbows are only meant to follow the fall of rain, they remain a solid color and they certainly do not make any sort of racket like this one was.

The noise had grown so loud that both Grandma and Grandpa stopped what they were doing and ran outside.

Grandma rushed to the scared children and held them, trying to sooth their fears. Grandpa stood next to Zookned, both observing the pulsing rainbow with no answers between them. The noise was a combination of what seemed to be many things, mostly clattering and clashing, but it now carried voices too - none of them were able to understand what was being said, but there were surely a collection of voices making their way down to the bottom of the rainbow in the empty lot which was now bathed in bright, colorful light and hard to see.

Finally, the clattering and crashing and mix of voices began to quiet and it all seemed to culminate at the bottom of the rainbow. The empty lot was bathed in light, too bright to see but Zookned had a feeling that whatever all that racket was had now ended up in that empty lot.

The Gnomes From Woodland Grove, Part 1

Gnomes are mythical creatures and very family-oriented. When the mother of little Bobby and Sue passed away three years ago, Grandpa and Grandma Fern moved in to help raise the kids. It wasn't easy but with the family all together and love in their hearts, they survived.

It was hard work but as their mother always used to say, "even hard work can be fun with the right attitude." Bobby and Sue would sing and dance as they helped their grandparents clean the house and the yard. Of course Grandma and Grandpa joined in on the singing and dancing. Once the chores are done, Bobby and Sue are allowed to go outside and play on their teeter totter; their most favorite thing to do. Grandma's favorite thing to do is to sing songs with the children and teach them new ones while Grandpa's favorite thing to do is tell the kids stories - sometimes scary ones.

While their father is a very hard worker, providing for his family, he always makes time to play with his children. There is not a day that goes by that the Fern house is not full of singing voices, laughter and a good story. Zookned is like his father; he also likes to tell the children scary stories. Bobby and Sue enjoy even the scary stories and although they may have heard a particular story multiple times (sometimes Grandpa forgets he's already told a certain tale), they would act just as surprised or scared as the first time they heard it.

Fall Fairy Garden Tour: Woodland Grove

Continuing the Fall Fairy Garden Tour, Woodland Grove is a small collection of homes made from nature; mushrooms, tree bark and a hallowed-out gourd. Bobby and Sue, the mischievous duo, live in this neighborhood.

This hut was structured from a hallowed-out gourd and topped with a twig roof.

Here is the playground area for the Fairy children, including a mushroom playhouse and a nice seating area for parents with a watchful eye to relax and chat.

Bobby and Sue have just finished their afternoon tea and continue their day of play outside of their tree stump home.

On second glance, it seems they didn't actually drink their tea - they just poured it all out on the ground! Tsk tsk.

September Picture Day In My Garden

Of all the fairies, Jezelle was the most excited to hear that it was picture day and was first in line!

I can never get a picture of Zoe-Zoe awake. Other fairies say it's because she is up all night.
I wonder how many other fairies in my garden are nocturnal?

Meet Sue and Bobby (L to R). They are the best of friends and never leave each other's side.

I took this photo of June while she was busy picking fresh mushrooms for lunch.
By the look of her face, it looks like she's already eaten a few.

April's favorite thing to do is pick flowers.
I've promised her I plant more flowers in my garden within the next few months.

Either Loopy was in a rush to put on her makeup for photo day or she ate a bad mushroom. That's our Loopy!
