In the Garden - Haul, February 2019

The following three container gardens were created using three of the new houses I got in my most recent Hobby Lobby haul. Other than the cost of the houses, I only used plants, containers and decor I already had in my inventory so these gardens were very low cost.

Garden A Day Challenge - Day 8, World Oceans Day

Today is World Oceans Day and I have a treat for My Fairy Folks. This 8th garden of the month is one piece of a big achievement. The large shell and coral were purchased from Jo-Ann recently. The layer of fire glass is the last of my supply from Home Depot (it was pretty pricey but has lasted me quite a few years in many different gardens) as well as this new container. The large chunks of sea glass are from Dollar Tree. All succulents in this scene are cuttings from my yard.

This container garden was completed last month but I had forgotten to share it. The mermaid pair are from Hobby Lobby ($8 for the pair, not on sale) and the sea shells were gifts. The large plants were purchased from the garden show I went to last month, and I have them in my garden often but can never remember the name of the darn thing.

Here is the first cleaned up area of my garden! I'm so happy to see Fairy Shores looking beautiful again. This picture is exactly why I created the Garden A Day Challenge. I can take a photo of more than one garden scene without feeling that it's cluttered or dirty.

The sea horse in the container behind the mermaids was given to me by a Fairy Follower a few years ago and is no stranger to Fairy Shores. The tin container (furthest left) and sea horse container will be spruced up soon enough but I couldn't wait to show off the actual progress I've made in just over a week. I'm so happy I was able to reveal this area just in time to celebrate World Oceans Day!

Hawaii Inspires New Addition to Fairy Shores

I've finally done it! The plan and promise I made over a year ago to incorporate my worldly travel into my Fairy Garden has finally come to fruition. This is the first installation and represents my time in the Hawaiian Islands. I particularly enjoyed my time in O'ahu, specifically at the Polynesian Cultural Center. If I ever get a chance to return, I'd love to experience their evening luau.

The container was only $5 due to some damage. Damaged containers are a great way to save money on your fairy garden. In the picture above, you can barely notice the damage thanks to plant placement. I made sure to use tropical plants and took a lot of time finding a pineapple plant. Of course, drainage was put in before I began to fill it, as shown in the picture on the right.

This seahorse was a yard decoration my friend had. When I spotted it, I made sure to let her know that if she ever decided to get rid of it, I'd take it off her hands. A year later she remembered my infatuation with it and called me to say she was ready to part with it.

Here is the illusive pineapple plant. I couldn't begin my Hawaii garden without it and I finally found it after a year of searching! I have a friend who has been trying to grow one and is having trouble so I knew I needed to buy one with fruit already on it. These plants get pretty big and the leaves are pretty sharp so you should give it 4 to 6 feet to grow and not crowd other plants.
