Dollar Tree Haul - July 2019

This month's Dollar Tree haul is very much centered around items that would be enjoyable to a young boy, specifically my great grandson in this case. The Dollar Tree is great for putting together a miniature garden that is kid friendly because they have plenty of toys that are indestructible (compared to my typical decor).

Armstrong Nursery Haul - May 2019

This is basically a tour of the Armstrong Garden Center in Claremont (735 E Foothill Blvd, Claremont, CA 91711). I made a trip here last month and also created a video of the items I purchased.

I picked up some small fairy garden accessories, including a new baby, and some new colorful flowers and foliage. I spent more than I would have liked to, but it's hard to contain myself when surrounded by such beautiful things!

Haul - Green Scene Expo 2019

Here are 5 succulents I purchased from a vendor at the Green Scene Expo in Fullerton. The four purple succulents were purchased especially for a project I'm working on. The four in the front were purchased due to their unique look and the fact that I do not have them yet in my garden. Unfortunately, I don't know the names of any of these plants.

I purchased these two watering cans from the Fullerton Garden Club booth, each with drainage which would make lovely container gardens. They're represented at this event every year and I always manage to find something at their booth for my garden.

Two golden berry plants! One of the main reasons I attended this event. This plant is hard to find and I just loved the berries from my garden last year so I made sure to get to the event early. I walked directly to this booth when I arrived to find a crowd of people already after my beloved plants! I was still able to purchase two healthy golden berry plants, but I'm sure if I was an hour later, they would have all been gone. What a popular plant!

This crystal flower was purchased at a booth that sold many crystal creations ranging from flora and fauna! I was even told by my friend that the vendor has a storefront and I plan to make a trip soon.

And finally, I brought two new fairies home! These twin sisters came with their own mushroom stools, sold by the same vendor as the crystal creations.

Three Store Haul - April, 2019

These flowers were purchased from Lowe's. These 6-packs were $0.99 each. I purchased 20 of them. This is a great deal for $20. It may not look like a lot of flowers for a yard, but boy is this an abundance when it comes to my container gardens! I haven't even got around to planting all of these.

The 99 Cents Only store has really stepped up their game in terms of quality in the last few years. I'm amazed at the fact that these colorful, metal decor pieces are only $0.99 each! And each of these bulb packets were the same price - they're going to be such beautiful flowers! Clockwise, I purchased Gladioli, Peacock Orchid, Dutch Iris and Muscari.

This shepherd's hook was only $1 - incredible!

This collection was purchased from the Dollar Tree, one of my favorite bargain stores. In the rear are some pots, a big box of mixed seeds and a metal trellis (one of four I purchased). There's also a glass jar, some butterfly decorations and three different lights, that are also pictured below.

In the Garden - Haul, February 2019

The following three container gardens were created using three of the new houses I got in my most recent Hobby Lobby haul. Other than the cost of the houses, I only used plants, containers and decor I already had in my inventory so these gardens were very low cost.

Hobby Lobby Haul - February 2019

I found four new fairy houses at Hobby Lobby. They have great sale prices that allowed me to pick up these four houses for just over $20!
I have quite a bit of catching up to do due to the rain and my surgery but I'm off to a good start now.

Plant and Decor Haul - October 2018

My most recent haul from Jo-Ann came out to around $40 total. I used a 20% off entire purchase coupon to add to my savings. Don't be ashamed to work those coupons!

All of this Fall harvest decor was on sale at 50% off.

This decorative yet simple pumpkin was on sale at 40% off.

A home for a gnome. This was the only item I purchased at regular price which allowed me to use a 50% off coupon.

This is my most recent Lowe's haul. Three strawberry plants were $3 each and the reason for this shopping trip. The rest of the haul was an impulse buy. I don't always know what I want to purchase prior to entering the doors - most of my decision is based on deals and sales (and the colors).

I picked up some yellow and red snapdragons for $1.38 each.

This Marigold came in a 4 pack at $2.49.

This is an Evening glow mirror plant, originally $16, purchased on super sale for $5. I plan to use it as a tree in one of my fairy gardens.

Gifts for the Garden - September 2018

I've received so many gifts for my garden this past month. A few decorations, some containers and some new DIY supplies.

This beautiful ceramic pot is part of a matching set that comes with drainage holes and a saucer, gifted to me by one of My Fairy Folks.

The two containers in the rear also came from one of My Fairy Folks, complete with drainage holes and saucers. The peat pot sleeves come in a pack of 24 and I received 5 packs. Since I have been receiving so many seeds, the follower suggested I pack these with soil and get the seeds started.

I don't have a single-serving coffee machine at my house but one of My Fairy Folks suggested repurposing these plastic cups as small planters (I didn't count how many I received, but I have a small grocery bag full). These won't decompose the way that the peat pots do, but they come with drainage and are reusable.

This tall beauty came to me as a hand-me-down from one of My Fairy Folks. She has been damaged in the past (weak ankles), but I have ways of hiding flaws in re-purposed items.

This cute little prince came from my granddaughter when she spotted him on sale at Jo-Ann. She knows that anytime she finds a little boy fairy, it needs to be added to my collection.

Also from Jo-Ann, this fall-themed decor will find it's way into a scene soon with the new season.

Plant and Decor Haul - September 2018

Look at all the wonderful fairy garden decor I picked up at Michael's at their 50% off sale! The fairy tale gate complete with crowned frogs, Strawberry house, and two magical castle's are all $7.50 each. The tiered container in the rear was only $20! I purchased a similar one in the past and love how easy it is to create a unique scene. The cobblestone and brick steps came out to $5.50. The princess was $4.00 (sorry for the bad angle, you'll see her in a future post soon). The gold banner says "happily every after" and goes perfect with all these fairy tale items, for the low price of $3.00. The wooden arbor comes complete with vines and mushrooms for only $5.00!

I'm especially thrilled about this find. This strawberry fairy home was originally $15, which is already a great price, but at 50% off it was a steal! With the addition of a few batteries, the windows will illuminate and be a warm addition to an evening scene.

This post is a two-in-one haul review! I spent around $25 at Home Depot for these new additions.

I purchased two beautiful mums, less than $2 each.

This Celosia 'Intenz' is drought tolerant. I purchased two for just under $4 each.

These two yellow Tickseed plants cost just under $8.

This six pack of sedum ground cover was under $3 total. This particular growth is nicknamed 'Tokyo Sun'.

Fairy Garden Haul - August 2018

The following decorations were purchased at Sunshine Growers Nursery in Yucaipa. I have not visited this nursery for a while and in the interim, the stock of fairy garden items has greatly expanded.

I was happy to find this beautiful fairy seated on a stump, chatting with a squirrel. In my time doing this blog I've discovered that the most common fairy styles are little girls who are white. I always have a hard time finding little boys, men, different nationalities and even unnatural hair color so it was great to see that one of my favorite nurseries is stocking unique products.

Little boy fairies! I have discovered that these often are missing details in the face. I wonder if that is because the artist is encouraging me to add my own personal touch to them?

I thought this was a fun piece that would add joy to my garden. There are plenty of young fairies that would love to play on this four-way teeter totter.

This boy fairy and his raccoon friend enjoy a ride on a unique looking log car which I felt was a steal for under $10

Plant Haul - July 2018

All of these flowers were purchased from Lowe's.
From left to right, Gomphrena's vibrant purple flowers were priced at $2.50. "Angelface" Angelonia Hybrid in blue and pink were $3.99 each. Pentas' bushy pink flower was also $3.99 and the blue dwarf cup flower was $2.50. I've only planted the Gomphrena so far, so the other flowers will be placed in my August fairy gardens.

Unboxing - My Fairy Crate - June 2018

Before I get right into the unboxing of this month's My Fairy Crate subscription box, I'd like to apologize for the low quality in the pictures. I simply grabbed these screen shots from the video I shot and the lighting wasn't great which made the focus off. Some of these items have already made an appearance in gardens this month so they may look familiar.

Upon opening the box, we were greeted by a lovely greeting card with a quote on the back that read "you can't tame the spirit of someone who has magic in their veins."

These miniature fruits can be used in many future fairy gardens since my fairies love having celebrations that include food. I'll only have to worry about losing these tiny things!

Unfortunately, this little fairy came to me with an abnormality on her nose but I'm sure it's a quick, easy fix with some paint. I really love this fairy and the interesting snail she is on. I decided she would be a good Halloween fairy because her wings are black with orange tips and she has a pointy hat, leggings and curly-tipped boots. I created a themed garden earlier this week with her as the main focus. This little frog is also adorable and can be a nice addition to any nature scene I create.

This tall iron bench will be good for some seated fairies I have that may have been too large for my current furniture. It's always nice to have an array of seating sizes when you have an array of fairy sizes. It has already made an appearance along side the frog and new assorted fruit in a garden posted earlier this month.

This teeter totter can easily make any scene look inviting and kid-friendly. You can see it in this scene.

I have a few fences and gates in my inventory, but nothing like this. This piece can easily add some class to a fairy garden.

Finally, this bird nest can be a subtle way to add a peaceful, natural feeling to a future garden. If you'd like to watch the unboxing video, you can find it here.

Fairy Garden Class - Dollar Tree Garden

Greetings My Fairy Folks! I'm back with another Fairy Garden Class. I hope you are enjoying them. I recently spent $15 at The Dollar Tree (click here to read that post) on a handful of fairy garden items that included fairies, gnomes, houses, bird houses, little critters and more - nearly 30 pieces.

This class will show you how I created one container garden using some of my haul and in my next post I'll share the rest of "Dollar Tree Village" (the name isn't official) to show how I utilized all of the pieces to create a small community.

For this container garden I used a pot I already had and gathered some succulent clippings. If you happen to know anyone that has some
succulent plants in their yard, ask them if you can take some clippings. Clipping a succulent plant will not harm the plant and it will strengthen your friendship with the homeowner! Clippings are a very cheap way to create container gardens and succulents thrive easily. Finally, succulents are great for container gardens because they are small yet beautiful.

Any clipping you take from a succulent plant will need to be laid out for at least 3-4 days. This allows the clipping point to callous over. If you plant a succulent without allowing it time to dry, you risk root rot.

Succulents are very special. They do not require too much attention - they require watering maybe once a week (or even less in colder
weather). The reason for this is that unlike most plants that have flat leaves, a succulent plant has fat, fleshy leaves that actually store water! Some succulents can even bloom beautiful flowers. I highly suggest that if you have not tried to incorporate succulents into your garden yet, do so soon.

Since this plant needs little watering, having them in a yard with automatic sprinklers might not be a great idea. In that case, I'd suggest having them in an area that the sprinklers cannot reach, or in a container that can be moved.

The tallest succulent pictured will have its lower leaves pulled off so that there is a long, bare stem to put in the soil.

I prepared three containers but only used one for this particular project. First, a coffee filter that will allow drainage but prevent small gravel from escaping. Secondly, some large pebbles that also aid in drainage and prevent the soil from retaining too much water. Third step will be filling it with soil. You will want to fill the the inner ring and never to the rim.

I planned the layout of the plants to allow a few of the fairy houses to look tucked into the greenery.

The roof of these buildings almost blend right into the greenery.

Adding small pebbles over the soil allow for a flat surface and helps the soil retain moisture. I used some glass stones to create pathways to each building.

This archway was created by using a flexible stem from a succulent plant.

This container garden looks good from any angle. Here's the back.
