This unique garden is packed with soil, moss, and a succulent plant purchased for $2.50 at Home Depot. The tea cup was a gift from my granddaughter, purchased on sale at Jo-Ann. It was actually advertised as a bird feeder and was featured in a previous post filled with seeds and air plants. Most succulents (as well as most flora) are root in the ground or a container on the ground. By putting these succulents in a hanging planter, it adds character to my garden and will surprise any new visitor.
I've received a few bird feeders in the last few months and decided to put them all to work. The one above was gifted to me by my husband on a whim last month. Bird seeds fill up the seat made of wire screen that allows any moisture to drain. Any bird who lands here to fill up might look like they're enjoying a relaxing day at the park, sitting on a bench. I imagine a fairy or two might even look sweet sitting on this seat. I also decided to fill the seat with some air plants to show the versatility of this piece. Actually, I decided to do it with all three of my bird feeders.
This tea cup and saucer was gifted to me by a granddaughter that thought of me during her visit to Jo-Ann. I was able to fill it with some bird seeds and even a few air plants for a cute photo opportunity.
Centered in the photo above is a gift I received in April. Pictured below is the same structure filled with bird seeds and then a large succulent. I think in the future I might use it as a bird bath. Only time will tell.
Last month I received some very vibrant gifts from my grandchildren to bring life to my garden which is currently feeling the effects of the bi-polar Southern California weather we've been having. One day it's raining, the next it's over 100 degrees! My lettuce had to be moved because of the heat. Anyway, back to these lovely gifts.
The large green and purple pots were gifted to me by my granddaughter's boyfriend. He recently went on a trip to Mexico and spotted these lovely pots. How could he not spot these colorful works of art! He also purchased a purse for my granddaughter but somehow forgot to grab it and left it back in Mexico. My granddaughter joked "he forgot my purse but he sure didn't forget to bring your pots to you!" We had a laugh.
The metal sculpture in the middle was gifted to me by my grandson's girlfriend. She spotted it and knew it would be a great gift for me. I believe I'll use it as a bird feeder. I wonder what sort of colorful, cheerful birds I can attract with this beautiful piece.
