Challenge Accepted - Sunflower Challenge 2019, Update

And we're back! Here's an update to the #SunflowerChallenge2019 (click here to see the previous update), with a focus on the tallest sunflower category. I have until the first of October to get the final submission height in. This Velvet Queen measured 10.5ft tall!

Challenge Accepted - Sunflower Challenge 2019, Update 1

#SunflowerChallenge2019 is off to a great start!

The video will show you the progress these seeds have made in the last two weeks, including adding a new variety of sunflower; Dwarf Teddy Bear. I've seen a handful of others participating in this challenge that have planted this variety so I thought I'd give it a go. Some seeds weren't doing great so I've added some more seeds in the hopes that I can get some sprouts going before I put them in the ground.

Backyard Update

My Previous Update of the backyard area was last month but I wanted to show you this month's look since it ties in with our most recent class.

Tiered gardens are not only a nice piece as a whole, they also have the ability to be spread throughout an area and become their own individual pieces.

I've expanded the seating area to include a cozy chair and some accent plants.

Backyard Update

I'm making progress with the backyard area. Since my previous update on this area, the flowers have filled out, the area is covered in wood chips and there is a comfy seating area. There's still more to do, but I just thought I'd share with My Fairy Folks a little update.

Such Growth - Budget Garden Update

It's surprising how quickly some plants grow and the change in appearance it makes in a container garden. Here is one of the gardens I made last month; the last in our series of budget container gardens where I used only items from the 99 cent store. The photo on the right is from the class. These chive plants have had less than a month to grow, and grow they did, as you can see in the photo below.

I only watered this container once a week and the blue sand has become prominent, the "beach" becoming engulfed in high tide. The detail in the blue sand in this picture is actually from the watering process, creating a tide pool visual effect, while in the original picture I'd just used my finger to create swirls in the sand. If you have a container garden and would prefer a little less change (in regards to the sand shifting), I would suggest direct watering (here I've used a hose to water when I could have used a watering can or even a large eye dropper) or small decorative rocks or buffed seashell pieces (can be found at a hobby store) instead of sand.

Fall Garden Update

Here is an update on my most recent Fall garden. I added moss to cover the area, a few plants and Lucky's parents were visiting at the time so I was able to get them in the photo.
