All those lovely purple up-cycle items from the previous post didn't start that color. All it takes is a little paint and a little time and you can personalize your garden in a unique way. Here's a video of my process.

Bright White Planter
Repainting garden structures can not only make them stand out more, it can also stamp a little of your personality or agenda on it. No need to go out and buy new garden planters when my existing one just needs a fresh coat of paint!

A Pop of Yellow
This lawn decor was purchased from 99 cent store. I bought it as a pair but did not like the black finish it came with. I decided it would look better in my garden with a coat of yellow, the same way I did my garden path a while back.
This photo shows the most recent appearance of them in the blog. They've been reused many times and remain in the garden without needing to be repainted.
They've been seen in my garden as far back as February.

My Fairy Folks - Ladder as Shelving
I love receiving photos from My Fairy Folks that invite me into their garden and expose me to their DIY projects. It now acts as shelving for her outdoor succulents.

Fairy Garden Class - Jade Forest
This drawer was gifted to me recently by one of My Fairy Folks (click here to read the post). I decided to begin working on a jade forest with this container garden.
A large garbage bag lines and protects the wooden drawer that acts as a container garden. I punctured the bag at two corners where it will allow drainage. A layer of small rocks will help the soil drain excess water.
With the potting mix laid in, I carved a divot down the middle to create a path and planned out the jade placement.
After I planted the jade, I decided it was too bare as is and found some extra plants laying around to fill in the empty space.
Besides Jade, I also planted dwarf cup flower up front and Gomphrena is the plant in the rear with the purple blooms that look like berries. I purchased these additions from Home Depot for less than a dollar each.
I decided on a good spot for this container garden and was able to prop it at an angle that will help navigate excess water to my planned drainage points. After cutting off the excess garbage bag and tucked it in, I added a layer of moss and larger rocks (this will help keep moisture in the soil).
Finally I added some small pebbles in the middle to create a path that will act as a beautiful scene for some fairies to enjoy.

A New Yellow Path
These decorative pavers were purchased around 15 to 20 years ago. Back then, they were blueish-grey stepping stones. As you can see, the grey has worn off, revealing the naked color of the stone. Time for a repaint.
To start, I lay on two coats of white spray paint. I want to make sure the base color is even so that when I cover it with the final color, it will be solid and not patchy.
I finalize these pavers with two coats of bright, yellow paint.
This new path will lead guests past a flower garden (pictured to the right) and end between Fairy Shores and an unnamed area of my garden. Years ago I had looked at these discolored pavers and decided to hand paint them. However, recently I decided I'd waited too long already and went ahead with spray paint. I might still hand paint with accent colors in the future.

Gifts for the Garden - August 2018
I received some gifts early this month so I have time to work on some DIY projects! These white drawers are leftover from a kitchen remodel of one of My Fairy Folks. The pull out drawer in front will be turned into a jade garden first. The drawer with 4 compartments to the right will be used for my fairy garden farm. Any suggestions for the final piece (tall drawer in the rear)? I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Have you done any DIY projects lately? I'd love to share them on the blog.
This lovely wicker basket was found in the trash at work. I inspected it, found nothing wrong with it and couldn't believe someone would just throw it out! Instead of turning it into a fairy garden and risk damaging it, I decided to use it as my harvest basket! I've been using plastic bags or plastic bowls from my kitchen, but this thing is the perfect size (already tested) to gather more than a handful of garden yield.

Welcome Yellow

| This decorative paver was a gift from my daughter probably 20 years ago when I first began gardening. Since then, it has sat out in the yard under a tree. The elements took their toll on this sentimental piece but I knew a new paint job would bring it new life. I also decided it needed to have a more prominent position in my garden. |

Illuminate - Copper Canvas
This piece of wall decor was purchased at a second hand store for $1 a long time ago. The color was faded and it needed new life. The top left photo shows the original state of the piece and the top right photo is after I painted it white. White is a much better base color to work with since it will allow any top coat to show its true color.
The photos below are my second coat of paint with copper. For some reason the camera refused to capture the true color; it looks red but I promise it is copper (as you'll see in the following pictures). I chose copper to match the lights which have copper wire that I planned to pair with this project. This project was inspired by a post shared on Google+. I've had this piece for a long time and knew it would perfect for this project.
After the paint dried, I wrapped a string of solar lights purchased from the Wish app around the iron work and attached it to my fence with some string to reinforce the structure. I'm really pleased with how bright these tiny lights are. They were very cheap and I will probably buy more in the future.
The lights in the glass containers near the bottom of this garden are tea lights; my previous preferred method to illuminating my garden. The difference in color and brightness is very apparent here. I plan to replace most of the lights in my garden with solar lights because they're so convenient.

World Bicycle Day
In April of this year according to Wikipedia, the United Nations declared June 3 an official "day of awareness about the multiple societal benefits of using the bicycle for transport and leisure." This day has been dubbed World Bicycle Day. In honor of this new holiday, I dug through my photo history to pull up some instances of bicycles in my garden.
This double planter bicycle was purchased many years ago. It was weather-beaten so I spent a day with my granddaughter repainting it. We first put a white coat and then a purple so that it would stand out more in the garden (it was originally black).
Here you can see the bicycle was used in a Mother's Day gift post in 2016. I do have plans to bring this unique planter back into my garden this Summer after some sprucing up.
This smaller bicycle planter was gifted to me by one of My Fairy Folks. I think it would be a good thing to repaint with a bright color, but it came to me in such good condition, I don't feel it's right to cover that just yet. When it becomes more weathered, I think I'd like to paint the seat green and the rest of the bike with a bright pop of color.

Garden A Day Challenge - Day 2, Pixie Cottage
This container garden is a mix of gifted items and re-purposing existing items. The container was gifted to me by one of My Fairy Folks recently. Once filled with soil, I transferred some plants from my food garden. The yellow backdrop was purchased from a discount store a while back which I'd repainted to stand out more. The house and path were items I already had. All other decorations were gifted to me by my daughter.
This happy flower will direct you to neighboring locations. These locations don't exist yet in my garden but you can be sure that they will soon enough.
This sign has a warning for all who pass by which is emphasized by the chunk that has seemingly been bitten out of it!
The flying bees, tiny flowers, shoes and fashionable boots add a little extra personality to this small cottage and tell a little bit about who might live here.

Fairy Garden Class - Wheelbarrow Garden
Wheelbarrows are a necessary tool for gardeners. I bought one quite a few years ago when I began gardening so it had become a bit weathered and run down, causing me to buy a new one recently. Instead of throwing out the old one, I decided to turn it into a fairy garden. Home Depot is where I bought this one for $20 so they're not too expensive and because it's plastic, my husband was able to easily drill holes in the bottom for drainage. As you know, drainage is very important. Also, while I was at Home Depot I noticed they have different colored wheelbarrows now to help bring color to your yard.
Of course you want to fill your wheelbarrow with rocks, wood chips (this is basically for filler to cut down on the amount of potting mix needed) and potting mix. The wood chips will decompose causing the soil level to lower over the season, but I will add more potting mix at that point (since most of these plants are seasonal and I'll be redoing this garden).
I planted a few different plants here and kept them on the outskirts of the wheelbarrow, allowing a lot of room in the middle for fairy related decor. The tallest plant is placed in the rear which will accent the fairy house once it's placed.
Once the plants are all in place, I decided to put a few different rock sizes and colors.
I placed this house in the middle of the scene on top of a saucer (as we know, they provide a level foundation) and a cluster of moss. I also made a rock path leading to it.
Fairies come as soon as a garden is finished. Ivy and Simone enjoy the new scene.
Julip plucks at a rose and enjoys the afternoon.
