Plant and Decor Haul - October 2018

My most recent haul from Jo-Ann came out to around $40 total. I used a 20% off entire purchase coupon to add to my savings. Don't be ashamed to work those coupons!

All of this Fall harvest decor was on sale at 50% off.

This decorative yet simple pumpkin was on sale at 40% off.

A home for a gnome. This was the only item I purchased at regular price which allowed me to use a 50% off coupon.

This is my most recent Lowe's haul. Three strawberry plants were $3 each and the reason for this shopping trip. The rest of the haul was an impulse buy. I don't always know what I want to purchase prior to entering the doors - most of my decision is based on deals and sales (and the colors).

I picked up some yellow and red snapdragons for $1.38 each.

This Marigold came in a 4 pack at $2.49.

This is an Evening glow mirror plant, originally $16, purchased on super sale for $5. I plan to use it as a tree in one of my fairy gardens.

Gifts for the Garden - September 2018

I've received so many gifts for my garden this past month. A few decorations, some containers and some new DIY supplies.

This beautiful ceramic pot is part of a matching set that comes with drainage holes and a saucer, gifted to me by one of My Fairy Folks.

The two containers in the rear also came from one of My Fairy Folks, complete with drainage holes and saucers. The peat pot sleeves come in a pack of 24 and I received 5 packs. Since I have been receiving so many seeds, the follower suggested I pack these with soil and get the seeds started.

I don't have a single-serving coffee machine at my house but one of My Fairy Folks suggested repurposing these plastic cups as small planters (I didn't count how many I received, but I have a small grocery bag full). These won't decompose the way that the peat pots do, but they come with drainage and are reusable.

This tall beauty came to me as a hand-me-down from one of My Fairy Folks. She has been damaged in the past (weak ankles), but I have ways of hiding flaws in re-purposed items.

This cute little prince came from my granddaughter when she spotted him on sale at Jo-Ann. She knows that anytime she finds a little boy fairy, it needs to be added to my collection.

Also from Jo-Ann, this fall-themed decor will find it's way into a scene soon with the new season.

New Purchases from Jo-Ann

Here's an overview of my recent Jo-Ann haul. I didn't have much intention to purchase anything, but my grand daughter discovered there were fairy items in the clearance section and had to partake.

This small building looks to be a small grocery store. It was originally $20 but marked down to $4.97.

In the background is a large bag of decorative rocks (which were not on sale, priced at $7.99, but reduced to $4.76 with a coupon) for upcoming updates to Fairy Shores. This seaside rock and coral cluster, also for Fairy Shores, was $2.47. The good sized set of a stone table and seats was $15 originally, priced down to $3.97.

This cute greenhouse was originally $29.99, a price I would not have splurged for, but at the clearance price of  $7.47, it was a bargain!

This tiny tin bucket was $1.47 after being marked down from $5.99.

This is such a cute decoration, but at $8.99, a little pricey. I was able to snatch it up at the clearance price of  $2.47.

I wouldn't pay $6.99 for these tiny things, but I would, and did, pay $1.47 (and regret not purchasing more at that deeply discounted price).

I have been keeping an eye out for fairy babies, especially when they're on sale. This piece was normally  $9.99, but all regular priced fairy items were 40% off so I was able to have him join the family for only $5.99.

These adoreably tiny garden tools were originally priced at $8.99 but clearance to $2.47. I can imagine such cute scenes of my tiny fairies digging up my food garden.

Finally, I felt this unique and colorful piece would look great in the update of Fairy Shores. He was also in the clearance section. Originally $12.99, a price I'd pass on quickly, was reduced to $3.47 - much more reasonable.

Lovely New Purchases

I purchased some lovely decorations recently that are going to be perfect for Valentine-themed gardens. The trailer in the middle is from Hobby Lobby and is actually a birdhouse, but birdhouses make wonderful additions to fairy gardens.

Here is the back of the trailer, with a cute little flower box under the rear window.

I purchased this item at Jo-Ann's. This floral bench would help set the scene for a park or mini-garden and could even seat a fairy or two if you have the right size and flexibility.

This item was purchased at Michael's. I was pleasantly surprised when I got home and realized that the pink flowers here matched the bench I had also purchased that day. I'm always on the look out for new fairies.

Here is the rear view of the swinging fairy. Her wings are so colorful and there are pink mushrooms at the base, which is a bonus for me.

Children At Play Series - Pt 6: The Hand Basket

This hand basket was a gift from one of My Fairy Folks and has quite a unique and natural look to it. I felt like it would make a great place to house a small fairy garden! I really enjoy how this scene looks unkempt and natural; as if you were deep in a forest, off the trail, and found an apple tree and neighboring treehouse that you're unsure is occupied.

This basket came lined with plastic which will protect the wood from rotting due to watering. Wood rot is natural but can be prevented with care. The plastic wrap protects the inside but you can protect the outside by making sure it is in a dry area, not reached by sprinklers and is set on something like a paver, not soil or anything that will retain moisture. 

These two items, the house and the tree, were from Jo-Ann. I get many of my small fairy accessories from Jo-Ann because they sell them year-round and have new items out for each season and holiday. Small groupings of plants can be found at your local garden center and I used left over moss and rocks from previous projects.

Children At Play Series - Pt 5: Little House in the Container

I know I'm not the only one who has noticed that the quality of take out containers have become much better in the last few decades. Here's a new way to recycle those takeout containers - turn them into a little garden!

Here are two containers that used to hold salad, purchased at a local deli near my work. This wasn't the first time I'd purchased a salad at this location, but one day it clicked that I could repurpose the containers. I cleaned them out and punctured a few drainage points in them.

Here are some supplies for this project; left over moss sheets from a previous project, succulent clippings from my yard and two new houses - these cute houses were $2 each at Jo-Ann. I encourage those who are planting succulents to use succulent potting mix in their projects.

After putting some soil in the container and arranging the succulents, I set down a small patch of moss sheet in the middle and arranged some small rocks along the perimeter of the container, placing the featured house in the middle of the scene.
