Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 29

The final container garden in the camping theme, this time with a rugged gnome, really roughing it in a secluded area, making dinner over an open fire.

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 28

I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes. Fairy royalty was spotted camping today! I wonder if they were jealous of the other fairies camping recently. Yet another container garden in my Miniature Garden Challenge.

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 27

I managed to only spend $6 on decor for this container garden since the rest of the supplies were already in my inventory. This tropical themed garden will help me spruce up my Fairy Shores, something I've been meaning to redesign and bring back to life. Nothing like a challenge to inspire progress!

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 26

Here is my 26th garden for this month's Miniature Garden Challenge - a challenge I posed to my followers, encouraging them to create one miniature garden, in any theme, and share it tagged #JuneFairyGardenChallenge2019.

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 25

A new fairy comes to stay in my garden and is the spotlight on this container garden I made for the Miniature Garden Challenge. I personally challenged myself to create 30 gardens in 30 days, but I challenged  my followers to simply create one. Have you entered your garden yet?

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 20-24

Another theme for my Miniature Garden Challenge is a series of "gardens" with fairies playing and hiding in the trees. These are perfect examples of being creative when it comes to creating a miniature garden - you don't need to be restricted to a container.

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 19

I finally bought a new miniature for my garden and for the Miniature Garden Challenge. This is Jeff and Robert, two rambunctious brothers who, I'm concerned, are headed towards an injury but they are having fun in the process.

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 15-18

June 21 is World Music Day so I've created the following fairy gardens to follow the theme.
These four gardens are part of my Miniature Garden Challenge and I spent nothing to make these since I had all the plants, containers and miniatures in my inventory already.

Miniature Garden Challenge - Day 12-14

Continuing with the Miniature Garden Challenge, I created a few container gardens with a dinosaur theme to entertain my great-grandson. The dinosaurs were purchased at the dollar store, and the containers and many of the plants are from my yard, so these were low cost gardens.

Miniature Garden Challenge - June 2019

I've been joining quite a few challenges this past year, really kicking it into high gear in the past 6 months. I'm enjoying them, but I decided I wanted to put something together for all of my followers. I love seeing your creations and wanted an excuse to show them all off! So this month, I'm asking you to create a miniature garden, fairy garden, container garden - almost anything - and share it with me.

You can email it, share it on my YouTube, Facebook or tag me on Instagram! All social media links are below. Be sure to use the hashtag #JuneFairyGardenChallenge2019

Easter Gathering

The community here is full of many types of members; fairies, gnomes, elves, dragons and all sorts of animals. We have bunnies here too and their community has grown significantly.

At a recent community meeting at this school, a few bunnies addressed the council and requested their own section of the garden, similar to the Gnomes who have Gnomingham or the Leprechauns who have Woodland Grove.

The area above is a temporary solution; a collection of shops and one house for the family that was voted to represent the rabbit community. Plans are underway.

Here is a florist store run by a family of bunnies. They were open for business just in time for Easter.

Here is a small grocery store that stocks many fresh items catered to a healthy rabbit diet.

Here is a school that was freshly erected. School is not in session yet but some young bunnies have already found a way to get on the roof for some solitary cloud watching and day dreaming.

In honor of Easter, this bunny decided to hide some eggs from the rest of the family (who are out grocery shopping) with the help of the younger siblings who are suggesting hiding spots from the balcony.

I have expressed to the council that I'd love to help in any way that I can. In honor of Easter, I bought some Lily and Iris to brighten up the area. I'm happy to hear that there will be a new area just for the bunnies, but it will take a while since there is so much more on the agenda (this community is organized!).

The name of the community is first to be decided and I thought I'd open up the floor to My Fairy Folks. What do you think the space for bunnies should be named? Please comment with your suggestions and I'll take it to the next council meeting.

New Purchases: Parkview Nursery

During my recent visit to Parkview Nursery in Riverside (to read about my trip and see pictures of a lot of wonderful stuff they sell, please CLICK HERE), I brought home a few irresistible items that I'd like to show you.

This father and son are enjoying a winter swing. This piece was the only winter-themed item I picked up during this trip but there were plenty to choose from. Believe it or not, this item lights up very bright and is battery operated.

These two fairies are enjoying their pets, out for a morning ride, hoping and running. These two look like they could be sisters, matching wings and clothes, which makes for easier character development. There were a handful of fairies with companion animals.

These two girls are best friends in their new home. I was very happy to find that this duet was the perfect size for this wagon. Often times, it can be difficult to find fairies and props proportionate to one another, but Parkview Nursery has a large selection to choose from, including an array of sizes.

This is a clothes line where fairies can hang their cleaned clothes on. This is a hot ticket item! This unique piece can easily fit into any fairy garden scene which is probably why they're flying off the shelves! If you're interested in this piece, you need to visit ASAP. Also, if you know of any other locations that sell pieces like this, I'd be interested to know because I think having a few different clotheslines would be a cute addition to my fairy garden.

Since none of these pieces have found a home in my garden yet, I would like to open up the floor to allow any of My Fairy Folks to suggest names for any of the fairies (or snow people) above. Feel free to comment below and share your thoughts.

Bearizona; a Miniature Garden

This garden was inspired by my recent trip to Williams, Arizona - specifically an attraction called Bearizona.

This brown buffalo represents those we saw at Bearizona, both brown and white. I've never seen white buffalo before so it was surprising.

Here is a family of bears.

I purchased this piece during my time in Williams. All other animals in this garden were purchased either on my trip to Yellowstone, Alaska or locally.

These two black bears are sitting on a log.

This brown bear came from Alaska, carved from wood, and caught salmon in his mouth.

This black bear is pushing the baby bear on a swing.

Williams, Arizona - Miniature Camping Garden

Inspired by my Williams, Arizona trip, where I stayed at the Railside RV Park, this part of my fairy garden represents the quaint main building in the park. The building is inviting and has seating out front, as well as plenty of natural space for kids to play.

Also at the Park was a covered wagon (Update: I never got to ride that wagon) with a nearby play yard for children. I've had this wagon for a few years, purchased at Hobby Lobby, which fit perfectly here to represent the wagon in Williams.

This setting represents the multiple RVs at the park, full of traveling families.

These two are enjoying a cool evening by the fire.

I bought this camper a while ago, knowing I would be creating a miniature garden someday to represent one of my many camping trips.

Little Jimmy is another guest camping out this evening, warming his hands by the fire. It looks like he finished dinner recently and you can see his welcoming tent is up and ready for the night.

Bed and Breakfast Cabin

I will start this overdue post by offering yet another apology; this time the fault was in my technology, but it is now all taken care of, so let's get back into the swing of things!

I received a wonderful gift recently from one of My Fairy Folks in the mountains nearby. Creating fairy gardens has become so much easier in the last few years based on all the gifts I receive! Let that be a lesson; the more you share your interests with people, the more they might see something great and think of you! Not only did I spend no money on this building, but all components of this layout were items I already had or found in my yard. No cost fairy garden - Score!

This cute log cabin has been turned into a Bed and Breakfast, perfect for traveling fairies or even a quaint stay-cation! How inviting does this place look!? Seating outside is available for guests to enjoy the scenery. Inside there is plenty of room - if you notice there are 4 levels to this establishment so feel free to vacation here as a group!

Here is a view of the side of the building. The lights are off but there's plenty of activity going on inside as the staff prepare for the grand opening.

Now that this layout looks its best, it's time to relocate it in the community. Check back next time when it finds its new home.

Fairy Garden Class - Teacups in the Garden

By this time, all of my family knows about my dedication to this blog and to my fairy garden so when it comes to buying me gifts, there's no doubt on what to get me. This year I received some wonderful gifts for my birthday and I decided to use them for a class opportunity. From my daughter and daughter-in-law I was gifted these large, beautiful teacups that were made specifically for gardening (they came with drainage holes). It's amazing to learn of all the creative things that are out there in the world!

I went ahead and cleared out this area right next to Teapot Glen to expand on my porcelain theme gardens. This new area has been named Teacup Nook.

After clearing it out, I filled it back up - this time with silk flowers that will stand up to the Summer heat here in California and add a unique background.

I went to my local Home Depot and purchased a few small plants to fill my teacups with. The teacups have drainage holes in them under a layer of pebbles, topped with potting soil. I sought out new fairy dwellings that would be tall enough and narrow enough for this space.

Adding the fairy treehouse and some decorative rocks, the teacup container combined with the background I previously set up shows off bold pops of color!

This colorful mushroom house blends in with the surrounding foliage, looking natural - as a good fairy house does. A small table is set up for tea time.

Have you ever used teacups or teapots in your fairy garden? If you would like to share pictures of your tea-themed garden, or any fairy garden you created, please contact me. I love to see what My Fairy Folks create!

Fairy Garden Class - Channeling Easter

As with most of these garden tutorials, we begin with a container and a theme. This month's theme is Spring but more specifically, Easter. As far as the container - get creative. Size, color, shape; that's all up to you but of course make sure you have a container that will fit all the decor you've planned for it. After choosing your container, place about an inch or two of small rocks to allow drainage before filling in the rest with potting mix. Be sure not to fill to the rim of the pot; leave an inch or two. This will insure that water and soil doesn't spill out and it also helps to give your plants support.

I always suggest in my classes that you visually plan a layout before planting your flora. This means setting them in the location you'd like there forever home to be and taking a step back to make sure things are even, fitting and visually appealing. Once your eyes have given you the okay, dig and plant. You might also want to think of making the "back" of your arrangement a bit more elevated. This allows you to place decorations without blocking any of your plants.

In this particular arrangement, I've actually allowed the tulips to remain in their container and buried it under the soil. The reason for this is because I know that the tulips will bloom and wither but the plant is not dead. Once the color is gone, I will pull up the tulip container and have it live alone for a bit before re-homing it, allowing the Daisies I've planted to have more room to spread.

From front to back the plants I've used are white Viola's, light blue Pansies, darker blue Pansies and finally white daisies with a yellow center that corresponds with the tulips.

I'm fond of using moss in my miniature gardens because it locks in moisture, gives it a more woodsy feel and adds visual appeal. Pre-soaking your moss allows placing it in your arrangement to be more manageable; it becomes moldable, stays where you want it and allows better full coverage.

Once you're happy with their living arrangement, it's time to decorate. I found the three brown bunnies as a set and the rest were part of a bigger set, all at Hobby Lobby (and 40% off, woohoo!). I knew they would be perfect for a Spring themed garden.

I would love to see pictures from anyone who has created a garden based on my online tutorials. Please feel free to post them as comments or email them to me.
